Review: Horror/sex comedy about four zombies who are running a hotel and trying to eat their customers. Three men are involved in a fatal car crash and taken to the local cemetery for burial. The Gravedigger is in no rush, and he figures his customers are not as well. So he sits back and reads aloud from a horror novel about voodoo. As he recites the incantation of the zombie, the three men in the caskets get brought back to life. The Gravegdigger turns to see them sitting up and dies from fright, but the zombies return the favor and soon all four of the men are the living dead. With no experience on how to be a zombie, they refer to the novel and learn that human flesh is their new sustenance. After several failed attempts at snaring a victim, they take over a hotel intending to have their patrons for dinner.

DYING OF LAUGHTER - Cult Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia (of ACCION MUTANTE, PERIDITA DURANGO, THE COMMONWEALTH and DAY OF THE BEAST fame) directed this very black comedy in 1999. The film concerns the lamest comedy team of all time and how accidental fame brought them to each other's throats and culminates in a performance in which they attempt to kill each other on stage. The film takes us through the gloriously tacky '70s and up to the present day. Iglesia brings his misanthropy (which was so uncomfortably present in his excreable PERDITA DURANGO) to the foreground as he dissects these two pitiful characters and the lives of those who surround them. Unrelenting, funny and never released in this country.

Rafael is an ambitious, seductive man who likes attractive women, elegant clothes and select environments. He works in a big department store in which he has turned the Women's Section into his own domain. He was born to sell, it's in his blood and he aims to become the new sales manager. His main rival to hold the post is Don Antonio, the veteran in charge of the men�s section. But fate intervenes and Don Antonio dies accidentally after a heated discussion. The only witness to the crime is Lourdes, a dreadful, naïve and obsessive shop assistant who doesn't hesitate to blackmail Rafael into becoming her lover, husband and slave. Rafael despairs as he sees his sophisticated world crumbling little by little into a hell of vulgarity. In the grip of madness he thinks up an infallible plan to free himself from Lourdes. This time he can't even afford to make one mistake. Everything has to be 'ferpect'.
