Lots of that '60s James Bond type super-spy type action. AVENGER X takes on various disguises, uses all sorts of nifty gadgets and there are plenty of fights and gunplay and danger and seduction as both the criminals and the cops get him in the squeeze play. Fullscreen, in English, no subtitles. Quality B+

Fist of Fear, Touch of Death

Unfortunately, this film neither features real martial arts, nor is it a classic. It hardly even features Bruce Lee, except for some old footage that has been re-dubbed to make it look like Lee actually agreed to this film being made. I hope somebody got sued for this one.
This could have been a good documentary about the "1979 Karate Championship" but most of the footage from the karate matches is obviously staged, and has little to do with Chinese martial arts. Some interesting "facts" were revealed by this film however. For instance, prior to watching "Fist of Fear", I had no idea that Lee's great grandfather was the greatest Chinese samurai warrior.
There are a few funny moments in the film (the Bill Louie Kato scene, or when Fred Williamson is introduced for example) but if you have any respect for Bruce Lee or film-making in general, I would highly recommend avoiding this film.- Lex

That's no problem for Terry though, who promptly gets himself arrested, breaking free at the right moment and fighting through the Cops to ram his fingers into the vocal chords of the informer…He's not speaking to the Police now! Though in a bad bit of scripting, what is to stop him writing everything down? Oh well…Lets us move on….

SANTO EN EL TESORO DE DRACULA

I really enjoyed this Santo flick. There's just something about it that makes it one of the most fun Santo films I've seen to date. I remember seeing a couple of the old dubbed "Samson" cheesefests on TV back in the 60's, but other than those, I'm relatively new to the genre.
First off, according to all sources, this film was shot in color. This copy from Rise Above is in B&W, but it doesn't seem to detract from the enjoyment. In fact, most of my favorite Santo films are the older B&W ones, so in a way, I feel the non-color aspect serves to enhance SANTO AND THE TREASURE OF DRACULA. Also, the "sleaze" factor of a reported adult version of the film (with naked vampire babes!) is indeed missing from this edition. I for one am glad. I certainly have no objection to sleaze, but there's something about the steadfast Good vs. Evil innocence of a Santo film that should not be tainted by such things.

SANTO EN LA VENGANZA DE LA MOMIA

It's so awesome that El Santo's films are finally released on DVD, and not in low-rent fashion. When I heard that Santo's classics were on the way to the U.S. DVD market, I really expected a No-Frills assortment of campy K. Gordon Murray-style dubbed versions that many of us baby-boomers enjoyed on Saturday night T.V. horror film fests.
The beauty of this release is that you get to see Santo with subtitles. The films still are campy, but nowhere near as kitschy as the English dubbed releases like "Samson In The Wax Museum" or "Samson vs The Vampire Women." Sure, it was funny hearing legendary lucha libre rudo Cavernario Galindo being introduced as "Caveman Wellington," but it's nice to see the subtitled version, which gives the movie the aura it was intended to have.

Today, at the end of the cabalistic time, Dracula has risen anew and he turns his vengeful eye on Cristaldi's descendants. Except that one of them, the lovely Lina Cristaldi, happens to be El Santo's girlfriend. Sucks for Dracula.
