Reptile (The) (Blu-ray) (1966)

A deadly epidemic is spreading through the remote Cornish village of Clagmoor Heath. As darkness falls, its victims are found foaming at the mouth with savage wounds upon their necks. After his brother becomes another fatality, Harry Spalding travels to Clagmoor to investigate his sibling's mysterious death. With little help from the superstitious locals, Harry follows a trail of macabre intrigue that leads him to the sinister Dr Franklyn, his strange but beautiful daughter and a truly horrific family secret. Released in 1966, The Reptile is Hammer Horror at its most nightmarish and bizarre.

Planet Of The Vampires AKA Terrore Nello Spazio (1965)

Ridley Scott´s “Alien (1979)” is a highly regarded masterpiece, but it´s sometimes forgotten that it has taken some strong influences from two films; “It! The Terror from Beyond Space (1958)” from director Edward L. Cahn, and “Planet of the Vampires AKA Terrore Nello Spazio (1965)”, from Italian director and cinematographer Mario Bava. This doesn´t take anything away from “Alien”, but it´s well worth a look at how the visual master of his own right, Bava, created a highly enjoyable horror and Sci-fi movie almost 15 years earlier, with a significantly lesser budget.

Review

Intrepidos Punks Dir. Francisco Guerrero (1980)

This film is a great discovery, a lot of fun with a gang of wild mexican punks headed by El Tarzàn (a masked fighter) and La Princesa Lea (vedette and amazon)who terrorize the highways and the cities, robbing banks dressed like sexy nuns, killing, rapping, blowing pipes of gas, mutilating dames of high society, all at rhythm of a great soundtrack rockantolero by Three Souls in my Mind, (yes, the title song is after all this years rolling in my head) And, yes, of course, two wiseguys cops are following their destructive traces to stop them (this two characters are really cool and dumb, yes) This picture is vertiginous, yes, the dialogues are really fun and surreal, the bikes and the punk dresses are great extravaganzas, a twisted and very fresh picture, and, yes, great great fun. A worth looking mexican film of the 80's.

JULES VERNE’S THE FABULOUS JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1976)

JULES VERNE’S THE FABULOUS JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH (1976)
Director: Juan Piquer Simón
Code Red/Media Blasters

It’s hard to believe that Spanish exploitation director Juan Piquer Simón’s first feature film is a family-friendly adventure based on a novel by Jules Verne. After all, this is the guy who would later give us PIECES and SLUGS! Shot in 1975, JULES VERNE’S THE FABULOUS JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH wasn’t released in the U.S. until 1978 under the title WHERE TIME BEGAN. Since the 1959 Fox film starring James Mason is so well received, Simón had a tough act to follow but managed to do an ok job, even if the cheese quota is high.

Pandorum - (2009)

In PANDORUM, Dennis Quaid (Vantage Point, The Express) and Ben Foster (3:10
to Yuma, Alpha Dog) join Cam Gigandet (Never Back Down, Twilight), Cung Le
(Tekken, Fighting), newcomer Antje Traue, and director Christian Alvart (Antibodies)
to tell the terrifying story of two crew members stranded on a spacecraft
who quickly – and horrifically – realize they are not alone.
Two astronauts awaken in a hyper-sleep chamber aboard a seemingly abandoned
spacecraft. It’s pitch black, they are disoriented, and the only
sound is a low rumble and creak from the belly of the ship. They
can’t remember anything: Who are they? What is their
mission?

With Lt. Payton (Quaid) staying behind to guide him via radio transmitter,
Cpl. Bower ventures deep into the ship and begins to uncover a terrifying
reality. Slowly the spacecraft’s shocking, deadly secrets are revealed…and
the astronauts find their own survival is more important than they could ever
have imagined.

Evil Brain From Outer Space (1964)

Film Review: Evil Brain From Outer Space (1964) Evil Brain From Outer Space

SYNOPSIS:
“A monstrous evil brain from outer space leads his minions on a crusade to conquer the universe, and unleashes hideous monsters on Earth that spread deadly diseases. Superhero Starman must rescue Earth from the menace of the evil brain while battling armies of monsters the brain sends against him.” (courtesy IMDB)

REVIEW:
Before I start this week’s review, I would like readers to be aware that this film was made in a less sophisticated time when all mutants were considered evil. Thanks to the recent X-Men movies, we now know better. And so, without any further ado, please allow me to discuss the 1964 classic Evil Brain From Outer Space.

THE GREEN SLIME

(Warner Archives; Dir: Kinji Fukasaku; Starring: Robert Horton, Richard Jaeckel, Luciana Paluzzi; 1968)

Goofy 1960's outer space entertainment as astronauts blast into space to destroy an asteroid headed for Earth, only to return to their space station with the titular menace tagging along. It's up to the three sides of a love triangle (Robert Horton, Richard Jaeckel & Luciana Paluzzi) to kick ass against the Green Slime. Fittingly entertaining theme song by Charles Fox.
